Smart Swing Indicator PRO
Deep single-timeframe swing analysis with mechanical precision
If you understand swing structure, the next question is: what does this swing mean compared to the ones before it? Is momentum expanding or contracting? Is this retracement shallow or deep? Is price moving faster or slower than usual?
SSI PRO answers these questions automatically, turning raw price data into actionable intelligence.
Beyond Structure: Measuring What Matters
Basic swing detection shows you where swings are. SSI PRO shows you how they relate to each other — the ratios and velocities that professional traders use to anticipate what comes next.
Multi-Day Swing Periods
Standard swing charting confirms a new swing after a single opposing bar. But in volatile markets, this creates noise — minor pullbacks trigger swing changes that don't represent genuine trend shifts.
SSI PRO lets you require 2, 3, 4, or 5 consecutive bars before confirming a swing change. A 2-day swing setting means price must show two consecutive down bars before an up swing officially ends. This filters noise while preserving responsiveness.
The result: smoother swing structure that reflects actual market rhythm, not random fluctuations.
Gann's Exception Rule
W.D. Gann observed that sometimes price exceeds a prior swing extreme before the bar count is fulfilled. When this happens, the swing should be captured immediately rather than waiting for more bars.
SSI PRO implements this automatically. If you're using 3-day swings and price exceeds the prior swing high after just two up bars, the indicator captures the swing point. You get the noise filtering of multi-day settings without missing significant moves.
Outside Bar Handling
When a single bar exceeds both the high and low of the previous bar, you choose how the indicator responds:
Mark as Continuation — Shows the zigzag path where price tested the opposite direction before resuming
Mark as Reversal — Treats the outside bar as a pivot point, reversing the swing at its extreme
Skip Entirely — Ignores outside bars, waiting for cleaner signals
Engulfing Logic
Sometimes consolidation spans multiple bars, with each bar contained within an expanding envelope. This is different from a single outside bar — it's a formation that builds over time.
Chartists differ on how to handle these formations. Some prefer to reset the swing structure after the first contained bar. Others prefer to wait until price breaks the envelope's boundaries before deciding direction. SSI PRO supports both approaches through the engulfing settings.
The Ratio System
This is where SSI PRO earns its name. Every completed swing is measured against previous swings, generating ratios that reveal market behavior.
Retracement Ratios (Pr, Tr, Vr)
These compare the current swing to the previous opposite-direction swing:
Pr (Price Retracement) — How much of the prior swing did this one retrace? A Pr of 50% means the current swing covered half the range of the prior swing.
Tr (Time Retracement) — How long did this swing take compared to the prior swing?
Vr (Velocity Retracement) — The ratio of price-per-bar between swings.
Why it matters: Deep retracements (75-85%+) often precede reversals. Shallow retracements (25-38%) suggest the trend has strength remaining. These aren't predictions — they're probabilities that shift your edge.
Extension Ratios (Px, Tx, Vx)
These compare the current swing to the previous same-direction swing:
Px (Price Extension) — Is this up swing larger or smaller than the last up swing?
Tx (Time Extension) — Is this swing taking longer or shorter than the last same-direction swing?
Vx (Velocity Extension) — Is the market moving faster or slower than the previous same-direction move?
Why it matters: Px above 100% means momentum is expanding — each swing is larger than the last. Px below 100% means momentum is fading. Trends don't reverse randomly; they exhaust first. Extension ratios show you that exhaustion in real-time.
Velocity Tracking
Range alone doesn't tell the whole story. A 50-point swing over 3 bars is very different from a 50-point swing over 15 bars.
SSI PRO calculates velocity two ways:
Bar-Based Velocity — Range divided by bar count. Simple, consistent, comparable across timeframes.
Calendar-Based Velocity — Range divided by calendar time. This captures real-world pace, accounting for weekends and holidays when exchange-traded instruments don't move but time still passes.
Intelligent Labels
Every swing point can display a configurable label. You choose what appears:
- 5 configurable display slots
- Select which metrics appear in each slot
- Hover tooltips reveal complete data without cluttering your chart
- 4 detail levels: minimal to comprehensive
The philosophy: show what you need, hide what you don't. Your chart stays clean while all the data remains accessible.
Alert System
SSI PRO includes 12+ alert conditions:
Swing Alerts — Trigger when a new swing high or low confirms
Overbalance Alerts — Trigger when any ratio (Pr, Px, Tr, Tx, Vr, Vx) exceeds your threshold. "Alert me when price retracement exceeds 75%" or "Alert me when extension drops below 80%"
Velocity Alerts — Trigger when velocity exceeds or falls below your threshold
Support/Resistance Proximity — Trigger when price approaches prior swing levels, with optional retest counting
Outside Bar Alerts — Trigger when outside bars form
All alerts support JSON webhook output for automation and integration with external systems.
CSV Export
Every swing point can be exported with its complete data set: price levels, timestamps, all ratios, all measurements. Bring the data into Excel, Python, or any analysis tool for deeper research or backtesting.
How to Use SSI PRO
Read the Ratios
When Pr exceeds 75%, you're in a deep retracement — potential reversal zone. When Px drops below 80% for consecutive swings, momentum is fading — the trend may be exhausting.
These aren't trading signals. They're context that makes your existing analysis sharper.
Set Meaningful Alerts
Don't alert on every swing. Alert on the conditions that matter to your strategy:
- "Pr > 78%" to catch potential reversal zones
- "Px < 85% for 2 consecutive swings" to catch trend exhaustion
- "Price within 0.5% of prior swing high" to catch support/resistance tests
Combine with MTTP
SSI PRO shows you deep single-timeframe analysis. Multi-Timeframe Turning Points (MTTP) shows you where higher timeframes are turning. Together, they give you both precision and context.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SSI PRO repaint? No. Once a swing point is confirmed, it never moves or disappears. Historical data looks identical to real-time.
What markets does it work on? Any market TradingView charts: stocks, futures, forex, crypto, commodities, indices. Swing structure exists in all liquid markets.
What timeframes work best? SSI PRO works on any timeframe. Most traders find the best balance between signal quality and frequency on 15-minute to daily charts, but the multi-day swing settings make even 1-minute charts viable for longer-term structure.
How is this different from SSI? SSI provides core swing detection and visual styles. SSI PRO adds multi-day periods, Gann's Exception Rule, the complete ratio system, velocity tracking, the alert system, and CSV export.
